#400 Farm collar is made from high quality top grain leather back and rim (black). The chrome oil tanned facing- will not absorb sweat (black). It is lock stitched with heavy nylon thread. The laced outer edge and Hame bed has strong oil tanned lacing (Brown). It has a lever fastener on the top. The #400 collar comes in 18"-32" sizes and in half sweeney as illustrated. This collar can be special made with a extra wide Hame bed to allow housings to be used. Extra cost of $15.00 per collar.

#400A SHOWN ABOVE: This has all the same features as the #400 except it has an adjustable top with 1" buckles on each side with a heavy 1" strap across the top. This is a great collar for colts and growing horses. It is a 3-in-1 collar so you won't have to buy a new size collar in the spring when your horses stand around all winter and gain a few pounds.

Example" a 24" - 26" collar with the adjustable top will transform into 24", 25" and 26" all in the same collar.

400M and 400MA are the same features as the 400 and 400A collars. The 400AM and the 400M are a special design for mules. These collars fit mules neck much better than a horse collar.

How to measure a horse for a collar:

The old way is to take 2 straight edges place 1 on top of neck and 1 on bottom of neck parallel to the shoulder blade, Measure between the 2 straight edges in a straight line. This should give you a close measurement for a collar.
The new way. (I was told about this from a harness maker in England) Measure the circumference (widest spot on the horses front leg, usually under the arm pit). This has been giving us the collar size within a inch or so.

HOW TO FIT A COLLAR TO A HORSE:
If the collar is not properly fitted to the horse, it is sure to make him sore. Therefore, it is necessary to use the greatest care in selecting the proper shape and size of collar. The illustration below shows you how a collar should be fitted. If care is taken in fitting the collar and adjusting the Hames so the Hame tug comes over center of the draft, you have eliminated most of the trouble of sore necks or shoulders and the horse will work with ease and comfort.

When fitting a horse with a collar there should not be any more space between the horse's neck and throat of the collar than will allow your fingers, when laid flat on inside, to pass through freely.
